Women's basketball to face Mizzou

The women's basketball team will begin its 2002-2003 campaign with an exhibition game Friday.

The University of Missouri-Columbia will host the Bulldogs for the first time since the 1994-95 season when it defeated Truman 97-40.

Truman will play one exhibition game before opening up its regular season against Western Illinois University (Macomb) on Nov. 22. The team's first conference game is scheduled for Dec. 30 at Central Missouri State University (Warrensburg).

Mizzou won its first exhibition game last weekend 86-46 over the Solna (Sweden) Vikings.

The Tigers have returned four starters and nine letterwinners from last year's team. The team has high expectations this season after qualifying for the WNIT last year.

The Bulldogs and the Tigers have met 12 times before, and Mizzou has won nine of those games, including the last seven meetings.

Senior forward Jennifer Fisher and junior forward Annie Westoff will lead Truman on the court, after the loss of team leaders Jennifer Perkins and Wendi Sobaski.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Hearnes Center in Columbia.

Men's volleyball club scheduled to host first home tournament

Truman will bring eight volleyball teams to the Student Recreation Center this weekend to compete in a men's volleyball tournament.

The men's volleyball team will enter two teams in the tournament to compete with six other teams, including the University of Kansas (Lawrence), Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville and two teams from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Truman's club team traveled to the University of Bradley (Peoria, Ill.) last weekend to compete in a six-team tournament.

The team finished third in the tournament after a loss to Augustana College (Rock Island, Ill.) and a tie with East Side Club (Peoria, Ill.).

The club is enjoying its second season in existence and has played in tournaments at Washington University, Mizzou and Southwest Missouri State University (Springfield).

After the tournament at Truman, the team will compete in one more competition before the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association national tournament at the season's end. On Feb. 15, the team will compete at a tournament at SIUE.
