Great weather this weekend propelled the track and field teams to a total of 15 individual victories.

The women grabbed nine events, and the men took six at the five-team non-scoring Dewey Allgood Invitational at Missouri University of Science and Technology.

Sophomore hurdler Shaina Dochterman ran to a four-second victory in the 400-meter hurdles.

"The weather was amazing - it was perfect weather to run in," Dochterman said. "The wind wasn't very strong. We have been dealing with really bad wind in most of our meets thus far, and the wind was perfect."

Her time of 1:02.72 gained her provisional marks.

Dochterman, a high school state champion, had knee surgery and sat out her senior year in high school. She said she feels good being able to run well again.

"Last year I was running pretty bad in the 400-meter hurdles," Dochterman said. "Last year my top time was a 1:07. I am running a 1:02 now."

Dochterman was a member of the 4x100-meter relay team that took first, along with freshman Kristin Lowry, sophomore Amber Clayton and senior Christen Lauer.

Lauer won multiple individual events, placing first in the long jump and triple jump. She beat teammate sophomore Katrina Biermann by half an inch in the triple jump.

Clayton was victorious in the 200-meter dash at 26.04.

Reigning MIAA women's track and field athlete of the week, junior Ashley Bernard, once again claimed victory in the shot-put with a throw of 40 feet, 7.75 inches.

Junior Crystal Cunningham in the 100-meter hurdles, junior Danna Kelly in the 1,500-meter run and freshman Kylie Raithel in the 3,000-meter run all won events.

On the men's side, two freshman victories led the way.

Freshman distance runner Brandon Gutteridge enjoyed his second victory of the season, winning the 1,500-meter run. Freshman Jamin Roberts won the long jump, propelling himself to 6.60 meters.

Gutteridge said he enjoyed the team's success more than his individual victory.
