Opinions abound in Kirksville, but we must continue to speak out
One of the many joys of living in Kirksville is the opportunity to respond to what we deem extreme opinion often found prevalent in the Index.
May I ask why we are wondering who started this Sept. 11 affair? Neither Hitler’s aggression nor another cowardly attack such as Pearl Harbor has given us a clearer view. Why do some of us dream in hope of socialisms for an answer while others recognize that these are the times that “try men’s souls”? We have seen the various forms of socialism and communism fail even in our lifetime. Must we continue to beat the dead horse of these ideas or can we stand and work this system that rivals any in longevity, fairness and opportunity - the democratic republic? We can no longer apologize for the success of free enterprise and a capitalistic government that is free and responsible for opportunity to lead the rest of a mostly oppressed world to financial stability and world peace.
America does not foster slave society, and we are not responsible for governments that allow it. We are, however, the antithesis and need not hide our disgust of those who practice such oppression. Many in this country have become wealthy by worldly standards in only one hard-earned generation of endeavor. We rival and exceed any nation in charity both publicly and privately. We have defended an ungrateful Europe that sells weapons to the enemy and accepts oil and cash bribes to discredit our effort. Could we ever think of allowing such people to speak for us or control our ability to pursue justice? Freedom requires the courage they lack. The enemy is often found blowing up themselves. This could give thinking people a very clear view of the value of human life by radical religious zealots.
Students, professors and everyone, please feel free to protest, carry balloons and write more Index opinions. Keep one eye open to get out of the way of your soldier and patriot who keeps the USA a free, powerful and successful people. Please vote.
