Panel discusses Egyptian unrest
The art department is sponsoring "Conflict in Cairo: An Exploration into Current Events in Egypt," today from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the SUB Alumni Room. A panel of professors from a variety of disciplines will discuss the protests in Egypt that began Jan. 25 and lasted 18 days. The format of the event will be open discussion and question and answer. The panel will discuss the economic, political and religious conditions in Egypt that led to the recent protests.
Student art exhibit opens
There is a free public reception for the Annual Juried Student Art exhibit 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Ophelia Parrish Art Gallery. The exhibit will be open Feb. 28 through April 8. The exhibit is judged by Brandelyn Dillaway, gallery director and curator from San Jacinto Community College.
Free tax preparation available
Beta Alpha Psi is offering free tax return preparation by IRS Certified Volunteers under the Volunteer Income Tax Assessment Program from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in Violette Hall 1424. Information about what documents and forms are required to file tax returns is available at the Beta Alpha Psi website, bap.truman.edu.
SAB hosts Bandfest
The SAB Bandfest is from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday in the SUB HUB of the Student Union Building. Admission is free and snacks and drinks will be provided. Performers include William Henry Harrison's Rainy Day Parade, The Strive and Evan Cottrell.
Detours accepting photo submissions
Detours magazine is accepting submissions for its biannual photo competition, themed "Return to your Roots." It is free to enter. All entries must be received by Feb. 25 and include the location of the photo, the name of the photographer, contact information and a short caption. Two winners will be chosen, one by the Detours editors and one by Detours' Facebook fans. The winning photos will be published in the Summer 2011 issue of Detours. Student senate in brief
•Student Senate approved two money motions for $250 each for a recruitment video and a branding video. The original money motions for the videos were nullified by the motion to sanction Senator Michael Dijak last week and were brought to the table as new business this week.
•Student Senate passed a money motion in the amount of $53 for the use of a snow cone machine during Earth Week.
•Student Senate passed a money motion in the amount of $40 to provide refreshments for the Greek Roundtable.
