Hillel sponsors week of Holocaust remembrance

University Hillel, the campus organization for Jewish students, will sponsor events during Holocaust Remembrance Week April 15 to 18.

The week coincides with the Holocaust Remembrance holiday in the Jewish faith.

Roy Schwartzman, a professor at Northwest Missouri State University (Maryville), will speak at 7 p.m. April 15 in Baldwin Auditorium. Students will have a memorial Shabbat service at 7 p.m. April 16 at the Centennial Flame.

Hillel will show "Schindler's List" at 7 p.m. April 17 in Violette Hall 1000 and members will read stories of Holocaust victims at 2 p.m. April 18 at the Centennial Flame.

Pickler staff brings National Library Week to Truman

The staff of Pickler Memorial Library is celebrating National Library Week for the first time April 18 to 24.

Students will be able to enter a drawing to win prizes all week by going into the library. Prizes include DVDs, CDs and books.

Patrons also will receive a bookmark from the American Library Association each time they check out a book.

Mark Spitzer, assistant professor of English, will do a reading from one of his own books at 4 p.m. April 21 in the SUB Spanish Room to commemorate the week.

Spitzer has written two books and also has translated several books from French.

Gallery seeks submissions for April 30 art event

The Tom Thumb art gallery is accepting submissions for a show at 7 p.m. April 30 in the old One World Store on Jefferson Street.

Submissions may be art of any kind in any medium.

Art and ideas can be dropped off from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays in the Ophelia Parrish atrium or at 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays in the Ophelia Parrish drawing room. For more information, contact Julia Karll at [email protected].
